Details:

Confusion occurs when Wiffles’ fiancée meets his double. Wiffles (known as Rigadin in the original French version) is a high-class, well-educated and proper young man who happens to have a doppelganger who is a shoemaker. Wiffles’ fiancée arrives at the shoemaker’s shop to get measured for a new pair of footwear. She gets caught up in the stunning resemblance and her parents, thinking that Wiffles (their future son-in-law) is playing a bad practical joke, throws the shoemaker out the window. At that moment, the real Rigadin arrives and is stunned by the reception given him. The future in-laws are surprised by the rapid transformation of the young man—one moment he’s dressed as a lowly shoemaker, and the next moment dressed as an elegant gentleman. The shoemaker bursts in to protest against the bad treatment to which he was subjected. And the confusion unravels to everyone’s satisfaction.
