‘The Climber New’ is the story of a young man and his first adventure ice climbing on the Juneau ice field and how it changed his life forever. Carraig New is a 12 year old Juneau resident who, by his own admission, did not appreciate the outdoor opportunities that his surroundings offered. Sure, he skis and mountain bikes but Carraig was well aware that just beyond his well worn path was a frozen world that few ever set foot on. Finally after getting a rather lofty school assignment he decides to explore his world. He called up Alan Gordon, another Juneau resident and expert ice climber and asks if he would teach him how to be an ice climber. |
