Shorty through an accident discovers a band of men, who are smuggling Chinese into this country. He goes to the city to get a position and there is hired as a body guard to Anita Keller, who is a secret service woman, and who has been sent out to break up the Chinese smuggling ring. Shorty overhears a plot to kidnap the girl and hires himself out to one of the band as a cab driver. He arrives at the Mandarin Inn just in time to see Miss Keller disappearing through the door. Once in the den the girl is offered to the highest bidder and has just been sold when Shorty and the officers he called in, arrive. Shorty sees that Miss Keller arrives home safely, and feels a dawning of love for the girl. The girl gives him her photograph and card, and as the scene fades she says good-bye to Shorty and he is most disconsolate.
